Onfolio Update and Upgrade FAQ

Important Note: On March 8th, 2006, Onfolio was acquired by Microsoft. On this date, a new release of Onfolio was released that is now the only supported version of Onfolio. No further updates will be made to Onfolio 2.0 or Onfolio 1.0. To get the new version of Onfolio, which is called the Onfolio Add-in for Windows Live Toolbar, please go to toolbar.live.com.

Why should I install updates?

Updates provide important fixes to issues in Onfolio that could affect you. By updating, you insure that you are running the latest version of the software with all of the latest fixes.

How do I tell if I need to update?

Once you have installed Onfolio, you can check to see if an update is available by doing the following:

1. Select Check For Updates from the Help menu.
2. Your browser will display a Web page that indicates if an update is available.

How do I know what version of Onfolio I have?

You can find the steps to find your version of Onfolio in OKB-101: Instructions for identifying your Onfolio version.

Do updates require me to uninstall previous versions?

No. Updates will automatically upgrade the previous version that you have installed. You may uninstall the previous version before installing the update as well, if you'd like.

Will I need to re install the .NET Framework?

No. Updates will use the version of the .NET Framework that is already installed.

Will installing an update or upgrade affect any of my existing collections?

No. Your collections will not be modified or deleted. Any information that you have captured will remain in your collection files.

If I own a commercial license, will I need to re-enter my Activation Key when I install an update?

No. The update will automatically detect your previous activation when it is installed. You will not be prompted to enter your activation key.

Do I need to pay for updates?

No. Updates provide fixes and modifications to Onfolio that we believe all users should have. As a result, updates are provided to all users of the currrent version free of charge.

Do I need to install the full 9.3 MB file to update or is there a smaller service pack?

You will need to download and install the full 9.3 MB file. We currently do not have a smaller service pack available.

Do I need to close all other applications when running the update?

It is generally good to close applications such as Internet Explorer when you run the update. When the update is complete, you will be prompted to restart your computer, which insures that any changes that the update makes will properly take effect.
