OKB-108: Using Onfolio with a personal firewall like BlackIce or ZoneAlarm
Onfolio includes a centralized process (onfserv.exe) that is used to interact with your collection files. This permits Onfolio to always display your items correctly, even when you are displaying them in multiple Collection Explorer windows. When you do an operation like exporting data, onfserv.exe relays progress back to Onfolio using the network.
We specifically added code to make sure that the only behavior that breaks if you deny the clients server permission, is that in many cases the client loses the ability to show progress. When you copy and paste some large items from one folder to another, for example, you probably see a progress bar that always stays at 0% (or maybe jumps to 100%) and has either the messages "Please wait..." or "Finalizing changes...". Without a personal firewall, the progress bar would go more or less smoothly from 0 to 100 and the messages would tell you what item is being worked on.
Some users have reported that personal firewalls prevent Onfolio from contacting our activation server to activate your copy of Onfolio. You can ensure that the firewall is not interfering with Onfolio's activation by disabling while you activate, then re-enabling it once activation has been completed.
