Helpful Information and Known Issues
Getting Started
With Onfolio installed, you can collect, organize, and share
information from your browser.

Getting Started Guide
Installation Information and Known Issues
. Onfolio
requires the installation of the Microsoft .NET Framework, a component that is
distributed with recent copies of the Windows operating system. A brief
overview of this technology is available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/net/basics/framework.asp
Your system may not have this set of required components installed.
. The
Onfolio Installer will verify that the required version of the Microsoft .NET
Framework is installed. If it is not, the installer will begin a download and
installation of the Framework. This download requires a network connection and
is approximately 23MB in size, requiring about 5 minutes on DSL or a cable
modem.
. If
you'd like to check to see whether you have the .NET Framework installed or
install the .NET Framework yourself, more information is available at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/howtoget.aspx
. The final steps of the .NET
installation can take more than 30 seconds to complete. During this time,
progress may not be displayed, but the installer is continuing and functioning
normally.
Fixes included in Onfolio 1.03
Onfolio could not capture snippets from saved Microsoft Office documents
As a result of work to address increased security introduced with Microsoft Windows XP SP2,
Onfolio 1.02 could fail to capture snippets from Office Documents. Onfolio 1.03 fixes this problem.
Onfolio could not capture from other applications that embed Internet Explorer
Onfolio 1.02 could fail to capture from within applications that embed Internet Explorer (like MyIE2, FeedDemon, or other applications). Onfolio 1.03
fixes this problem.
Limited users unable to email items
When a limited user attempted to email an item to another user, Onfolio would experience an
unexpected error. This error has been fixed in Onfolio 1.03
Fixes included in Onfolio 1.02
Onfolio may not display correctly if performance
counters are not enabled
If the system's performance counters were not enabled, one of the final
steps of Onfolio's installer would have silently failed. This would have
caused the Internet Explorer browser integration to not appear. This has
been fixed so we no longer require
performance counters to be enabled.
Long email subjects cause errors when capturing email
If you dragged and dropped or copied and pasted emails from Microsoft
Outlook into Onfolio, you would have gotten an unhandled exception with
subjects that exceeded 100 characters. We have fixed this problem so
emails with long subjects are now correctly captured.
On some systems, onfserv.exe could consume all
available CPU
A small number of users have reported that one of the processes used
by Onfolio, onfserv.exe, sometimes consumed significant amounts of CPU
resources on their machines, even while Onfolio was idle. We have fixed
the problem.
File monitoring may not correctly pick up some edits
When you edit a local copy of a file stored in Onfolio, your changes are
stored in the collection file. With some types of files (particularly
Adobe Acrobat documents), Onfolio was not correctly saving the changes that
were made to the file. We have fixed the problem.
Windows XP SP2 Security warning displayed for captured
snippets and pages
Windows XP SP2 increases browser security significantly over previous
versions of Windows XP. In SP2, when you are viewing local copies of web
pages, Internet Explorer attempts to put the web page into the correct security
zone using a special header. Onfolio did not write this special header to
captured pages and snippets. In Onfolio 1.02, we do capture this special
header. In addition, any pages or snippets that are already saved will
have this header automatically prepended.
Activating Onfolio fails on some systems
Onfolio used a Web Services connection to activate a purchased
license. In some network configurations, this web service request could
fail. Onfolio 1.02 uses standard HTTP to connect to the activation
server.
Capturing
an Adobe Acrobat document that was opened in a new window can cause an Internet
Explorer access violation when that new window is closed
When capturing a PDF document that had been opened in a new window,
Onfolio could cause an Internet Explorer access violation. A similar
problem is detailed in Microsoft
KB Article 257994. Onfolio 1.02 works around the problem to prevent it
from occurring.
Exception
when using Mozilla as default browser
When viewing a captured item with Mozilla set as the default browser,
Onfolio would report an unhandled exception. This is a result of a
configuration problem when Mozilla sets itself as the default browser, detailed
here. Onfolio 1.02 works around this problem so it will no longer
affect Onfolio users with Mozilla as their default browser.
General Information and Known
Issues
To learn more about what is new in
Onfolio, review the Getting Started Guide,
which automatically
displays the first two times you launch Onfolio. It is also available from the
Onfolio Program Group of your Start Menu.
.
Adding Onfolio button to Internet Explorer main toolbar
In Internet Explorer, open View Menu and select
Toolbars->Customize. Using the list box on the left side of the dialog box,
find the Onfolio toolbar button and add it to the list of current toolbar
buttons.
.
Onfolio and personal firewall software
In order for Onfolio to function correctly, it must be able to
access the network. Personal firewalls can be configured to prevent Onfolio
from accessing the network, which can interfere with Onfolio's functionality.
If you are using a personal firewall, be sure to allow any Onfolio application
to access the network.
. Unexpected errors
When Onfolio encounters an unexpected error, the dialog box identifying the
error includes a button you can click to email error information to Onfolio.
The error information that is mailed to us includes only information about the
program's execution state, not any information about what you have stored in
Onfolio or any personal information about you. Please click the button to send
details to Onfolio when you see an unexpected error.
.
Dealing with an unresponsive application
If Onfolio becomes unresponsive and opening and closing Onfolio doesn't fix the
problem, there is an additional step that you can take to address the problem.
Use the Task Manager to end a process called onfserv.exe. (You can launch the
Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del. You can end a process by clicking the
Processes tab, selecting the process name from the list, and clicking End
Process.) This process works with Onfolio stored data; and if it becomes
unresponsive, it could cause any other Onfolio application to stop responding.
Ending this process will not corrupt your data, and Onfolio will automatically
start this process again when it is needed.
.
Onfolio logs
Onfolio creates log files that can be helpful for diagnosing problems. The
following logs are available in the directory
<installdirectory>/Onfolio/Logs/:
| |
Onfolio.log
|
Logs errors and messages
that occur while you are running Onfolio, the Deskbar, or the Publisher. If you
experience an error or bad behavior while using Onfolio, this log may have
helpful information.
|
| |
install_log.txt
|
Logs messages that occur while you are
doing final configuration of Onfolio. If your Onfolio installation has failed,
this log may have helpful information.
|
.
Split screen displays using IBM Presentation
Director
When you are splitting your screen display across monitors with differing
resolutions, an error may occur. You can work around this issue by configuring
the monitors to use the same resolution.
.
Capturing complicated web pages as local copies
sometimes doesn't capture the page exactly
When you capture complicated web pages and
you save them as local copies, they may not be saved exactly as you see them in
the browser. These pages include pages with
significant and complicated JavaScript, pages that include very complex Flash
applications or movies, or pages that redirect you to other pages.
.
Importing Favorites creates only links and
folders
If you import from your Favorites, Onfolio imports only
folders and links. Any files that you are storing in your Favorites will not be
imported.
.
Renaming a collection but only changing the
capitalization will not change the collection name
To change the capitalization of a collection name, select a different name for
the collection, and then rename it again using the capitalization you want.
.
Search terms not captured for dragged-and-dropped
links
When you capture an item using drag and drop, any search terms that you may
have used to locate the item are not captured. You can work around this by
clicking the Capture button, pressing the F9 key, or using the right-click menu
to capture items.
.
Dragging and dropping to capture a linked image
captures the link, not the image
If you'd like to capture an image that is linked, right-click the image and
select Capture Image to Onfolio. If instead you drag the image, you will be
prompted to capture the link.
.
First line of reports occasionally will not allow
formatting
Occasionally, text placed in the first line of a report will retain its initial
formatting. To work around this, select the text, copy it, and then paste the
text over itself. This will cause the editor to rewrite the text, correcting
the formatting.
.
Canceling while FTPing files using Publish to Web
shows error
If you cancel while FTPing a file from within Publish to Web, publishing will
correctly stop FTPing the files, but you will also receive an extraneous error
message. This error message will not affect anything.
.
Publishing a report to a website hosted on an
Apache 2.0 web server and encoding
Apache 2.0 explicitly reports HTML files to have charset ISO-8859-1, in the
HTTP headers. Our report HTML files are encoded in UTF-8, which is stated in
our <META> http-equiv tags. In some browsers, the HTTP header sent by
Apache will override the encoding we specify in our HTML files. This can cause
reports viewed by certain browsers to display unicode characters incorrectly
and to include other unusual characters. You can work around this by using an
.htaccess file to configure the Apache server to send the correct encoding.
More information on .htaccess files and configuration can be found
here.
.
While an image is selected in Publisher, indent
buttons are disabled
You can work around this by pressing the Tab key to indent the selected image
and using the Shift+Tab keys to unindent the selected image.
